Hair By Liza wig FAQ and care guide

Wig knowledge made simple

Understanding how a wig fits, what it's made from and how it should be maintained can make choosing and caring for alternative hair much easier.

01

Getting Started

How do you measure your head for a wig?
Wig head size chart showing circumference measurements

Find your wig cap size by measuring the circumference around your hairline.

Custom wigs may also require ear-to-ear and front-to-back measurements.

Common cap sizes include:

Ultra Petite Petite Petite Average Average Average Large Large
How do you put a wig on?

If you have longer hair, prepare it by securing it with bobby pins in a smooth wrap pattern that lies close to the head.

Give the wig a gentle shake before putting it on. The tags are located at the nape.

Position the front of the wig against your forehead, then gently pull the wig back and over your head.

Tighten or loosen the adjustment straps as needed until the wig feels comfortable and secure.

What should I consider when choosing a wig?

When choosing a wig, consider several factors together rather than focusing only on color.

  • Cap construction
  • Lace front or monofilament features
  • Human hair or synthetic fiber
  • Length
  • Cut
  • Texture
  • Color

Hair & Fiber Types

What are the different kinds of wig hair?

Wig fibers vary in weight, appearance, styling flexibility and maintenance.

Kanekalon Flexlite

A lightweight, fine synthetic fiber designed to reduce unnecessary weight and volume while maintaining coverage.

Kanekalon Excelle

A heat-friendly synthetic fiber that offers natural-looking color and can be heat styled when proper temperature guidelines are followed.

Kanekalon Vibralite

A synthetic fiber designed for a natural look and feel, including dimensional blends with highlights and lowlights.

Tru2Life

A heat-friendly synthetic fiber that can be curled, straightened or blow-dried within the manufacturer's recommended heat range.

Human Hair

Provides a highly natural look and feel along with extensive styling flexibility.

Certified Remy Human Hair

Human hair with aligned cuticles, helping provide softness, natural movement and shine.

FeatherLite

A lightweight heat-styleable synthetic fiber designed for low weight and strong style retention.

Cap Construction

What is a lace front?

A lace front is designed to resemble a natural hairline.

Individual hairs are attached to a sheer lace material along the front of the wig, creating the appearance that the hair is growing naturally from the scalp.

What is monofilament?

A monofilament feature uses a thin layer of sheer mesh at the part, crown or top of a wig.

It creates the appearance of hair growing naturally from the scalp and can provide a lightweight, breathable feel.

This can be especially helpful for clients with scalp sensitivity.

What does hand-tied mean?

Hand-tied means that individual hairs have been tied by hand to part or all of the wig cap.

This construction can create realistic movement while providing a soft and flexible feel.

What is a Memory Cap®?

HairUWear's Memory Cap® construction is designed to be thin, stretchy and secure.

The cap forms to the shape of the head to provide a comfortable and personalized fit.

Styling & Care

How should I style and care for my wig?

Care instructions depend on the fiber used in your specific wig.

Different synthetic and human-hair fibers require different washing, conditioning and styling methods.

How do I wash a synthetic wig?

Synthetic wigs should be handled gently when detangling, cleansing, rinsing and drying.

Follow the care instructions included with your specific wig style and fiber.

For heat-friendly Tru2Life or Excelle fiber, HairUWear recommends washing and conditioning the hair before applying the appropriate leave-in conditioner.

When blow-drying heat-friendly fiber, use low-to-medium heat. Excessive heat can damage synthetic fibers.

Heat-friendly synthetic hair can become extremely hot, so curling, blow-drying or straightening the hair while wearing the wig is not recommended.
